SAN DIEGUITO RIVER PARK ACQUIRES NEW BACK COUNTRY PROPERTIES

Below is a map that shows the San Dieguito River Park Focused Planning Area in red. The San Dieguito Watershed is in blue. The large green arrow points to the general location of the two new properties that the River Park requently acquired (the former Newton and Habib properties), as well as the location of the target of the San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy's new fundraising campaign, Sutherland East.

The map below shows more the new properties in relation to other properties adjacent to them. Everything shown in green is in protected public ownership. The Santa Ysabel Ranch West property is owned by the County of San Diego. The Helms Ranch property was purchased by the San Dieguito River Park in 2003. Lake Sutherland is owned by the City of San Diego. Photos of these properties are shown below.

HABIB

The former Habib property is characterized by oak meadows, as seen above and below.

It also contains several manmade ponds.

As these pictures show, the former Helms Ranch property is characterized primarily by extremely large boulders.

These photos of the former Newton property were taken on a rainy, misty day.

SUTHERLAND EAST

The beautiful Sutherland East property, still privately owned, is the subject of a fundraising campaign by the San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy. Read more about the property and the campaign.
