San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy
In 1985, a small group of concerned citizens began meeting to form
the San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy. It was founded in the
belief that there is still time to set aside a substantial natural
recreational corridor of park land and open space to provide the respite
from urbanization that every city dweller yearns for and needs. The
Conservancy is a private,
non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization.
It can:
- Facilitate the efforts of public bodies and private citizens
to transfer land to dedicated open space or to recreational
use.
- Locate and develop sources of funds for the acquisition
of land.
- Secure gifts and bequests of land or money on a tax-deductible
basis.
- Work with other organizations, both public and private,
to acquire land and hold it for the kinds of uses envisioned.
Donors who might be reluctant to make gifts directly to a governmental
agency, maybe more inclined to contribute to a private 501(c)(3)
charitable organization such as the Conservancy.
The Conservancy holds numerous social and educational fund-raising
events during the year.

Friends of the San Dieguito River Valley
The Friends of the San Dieguito
River Valley formed as a non-profit 501(c)(4) group in 1986,
when pressure was building to plan for development
in the western river valley near Interstate 5. Their by-laws state
their purpose is to conserve, restore and enhance the scenic, ecological
and open space resources of the river valley system, emphasizing
the importance of the ecological resources. In addition, their
purpose
allows them to support or oppose projects, private and public,
affecting the valley, and to lobby and to endorse measures and
candidates.
The organization welcomes members at any level of support ($10
individual,
$25 sponsor, $100 patron). They have a yearly membership get-together.
Please contact them at P.O. Box 973, Del Mar, CA 92014-0973, or
(858)755-6061 . They can also be reached by e-mail at info@fsdrv.org. www.fsdrv.org.
