The San Dieguito River Park, a regional open space park in North County, is looking for a

Resident Volunteer
(could be a single person or a couple)

to serve as Groundskeeper and Security at the

Sikes Adobe Historic Farmstead

12655 Sunset Dr., Escondido, CA 92025

Must own or be able to purchase a recreational vehicle, not longer than 30 feet. In exchange for 20 hours of groundskeeping work per week, the Resident Volunteer will receive a rent-free place to live, and his/her recreational vehicle's electric, water and sanitary tank cleaning will be paid by the San Dieguito River Park JPA

Must pass a background check and be willing to sign a Resident Volunteer contract.

San Dieguito River Park Internship Guidelines

Student Internship

Applicant must be enrolled in an accredited College or University and seeking to gain work experience in a field aligned with River Park needs and opportunities. Applicant is also eligible to receive a stipend, if available and upon the discretion of the Director, upon completion of project or agreed upon hours and as recognition for exemplary performance.

Pre-Professional Internship

Applicant has participated in a certificate or degree program from an accredited College or University in a field aligned with River Park needs and opportunities and is seeking work experience. Completion of said program is preferred. Applicant is also eligible to receive a stipend, if available and upon discretion of the Director, upon completion of project or agreed upon hours and as recognition for exemplary performance.

How to Apply

Complete Internship Application (Download Internship Application) and a resume and cover letter outlining:

  • Why the applicant chose the San Dieguito River Park to pursue an
    internship
  • What experience the applicant would like to gain at the River Park
    Relevant education and work experience (both paid and unpaid)
  • The applicant’s career direction and goals
  • Please also attach any specific documentation or responsibilities, such as progress reports, that are required by the applicant’s academic advisor or school that the River Park must fulfill as part of your internship.

Before Starting Internship

After completing an interview with the appropriate River Park staff and prior to acceptance as an intern, all intern candidates must:

  • After meeting with project supervisor(s) to discuss and define internship projects, create a project proposal outlining work objectives
  • Along with project supervisor(s), set and communicate a regular work schedule
  • Submit a timeline outlining project start and end dates as well as any significant project milestones or deadlines
