San Dieguito Lagoon
Coastal Boardwalk is Finished!

The Boardwalk provides 1,400 feet of trail for pedestrian use in the San Dieguito lagoon area. It begins with a short concrete sidewalk coming down from Jimmy Durante Blvd. onto a section of trail on a berm next to the river, which transitions into a 1,200-foot-long boardwalk, ending with a viewing platform. The pictures below show the construction progress.

The boardwalk was designed by KTU+A Landscape Architects. Marathon Construction was the contractor. Their work began in September 2006 and finished in mid-January 2007. The deck boards on the boardwalk were installed by the Del Mar Rotary in a mammoth work party on April 7, 2007.

Project Location

In Del Mar, just east of Jimmy Durante Blvd., north of the river. The graphic below shows the planned alignment of the 2-mile-long trail from Jimmy Durante east to the southwest corner of "Horsepark". The 1400-foot long Boardwalk project is a subsection of the larger planned trail.

The boardwalk was installed using "Diamond Piers" (http://www.pinfoundations.com), a low impact foundation technology.

The Boardwalk project ends with a viewing platform that provides views over the San Dieguito River.

APRIL 7, 2007 - DEL MAR ROTARY WORK PARTY FINISHES THE JOB



The Del Mar Rotary installed 1200 feet of decking in an intensive one-day work party.
