Old Coach Trail Link to Coast to Crest Trail Grand Opening
Saturday, October 8, 2011 was the official grand opening of the new link between the Trans-County Trail, on the south side of Poway with the San Dieguito River Park Coast to Crest Trail in San Pasqual Valley. Led by Poway Councilman and JPA Boardmember Jim Cunningham, a group of ten intrepid folks hiked 10.28 miles that morning from the Trans-County Trail north to the grand opening event that was staged in the new Highland Valley-Old Coach staging area. Upon arrival (45 minutes past due) there were speeches from San Dieguito River Park Executive Director Dick Bobertz, Jim Cunningham, County Parks Manager Cailin Hunsaker, San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy President Rand Newman and former JPA Boardmember Scott Peters, as park and trail supporters looked on. After the speeches, Ranger Leana Bulay led a short hike for folks to admire the new link. See photos of the event below.
