Sikes Adobe Farmhouse
Restoration
December 2003 Progress Report
Two work-parties in one day! That was Saturday December 6, when
16
California Pepper trees (15 gallons each) were planted along Sunset
Drive
at the border of the Sikes Adobe Historic Farmstead, courtesy of
the SDGE
Treesmart program and the City of San Diego Council District 5
office. Councilmember Brian Maienschein plants the first tree
below,
with
the San Diego Urban Corps looking on. The San Diego Urban Corps
dug the
holes for all the trees the day before, and assisted in their planting.

Shown below is a line of newly planted trees. In only a few years
they
will provide graceful shade and form a screen that will helps re-create
the
historic ambience of the Sikes Adobe Historic Farmhouse.

While the trees were being planted, other volunteers showed up
to
paint! Here are Joyce Tavrow and Min Wells hard at work.

Jerry Harmon washes soot and dust off the walls before primer
is applied.

Dave Kreitzer, volunteer painting supervisor, checks the work
of Jenny
Slater and Jan Lines.

The farmhouse is really starting to look good now!
