SDRP Receives William Turnbull Jr., FAIA, Environmental Education Grant
The San Dieguito River Park has received a $1,000 William Turnbull Jr. FAIA Environmental Education Grant for interpretive signage to tell the story of adaptive reuse and recycling of a structure to meet evolving community needs. The structure was the old farmer's "Strawberry Stand" on Via de la Valle, that the San Dieguito River Park converted into the "Strawberry Stand Wetland Learning Center".
The California Architectural Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of architecture and the science and art of environmental design, preservation and construction. The Foundation promotes these elements by enhancing the standards of architectural education, training and practice through education and research and soliciting contributions for these purposes.
In 1998, the Foundation initiated a new grant program, the "William Turnbull Jr., FAIA, Environmental Education Grant" with the purpose of fostering public education and public awareness programs related to the built and natural environment. The grant is dedicated to the memory of William Turnbull Jr., FAIA, the noted northern California architect. The Board of Regents administer the grant program in accordance with the Foundation's goals and community needs. Grant amounts vary between $500 and $2000.
With the grant funds received, the River Park commissioned a interpretive panel for installation at the Strawberry Stand Wetland Learning Center. Click here to see the panel.
