Tule Billbug, Sphenophorus aequalis
Tule Billbugs are actually a type of weevil. They breed in tules and cattails along the San Dieguito River. Many tropical weevils are large and spectacularly colored, but most North American species are small and fairly inconspicuous. The bold black and white pattern and fairly large size (up to 18 mm) makes the Tule Billbug a fairly impressive weevil!
