The San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy has passed the half-way point in their campaign to raise $400,000 of the purchase price of the Lake Sutherland East Property. See the Conservancy website for information about the property and how you can help. 8/15/05
The San Diego County Water Authority construction of a 5,800-foot-long, 10-foot diameter tunnel, connecting Lake Hodges to the Olivenhain Reservoir will cause some closures of the Hodges North Shore Trail. The western end of the Hodges North Shore Trail approximately 1,500 feet west of the trail staging area near Hernandez Hidaway will be closed temporarily during weekdays until the end of September while part of the County Water Authority's Emergency Storage Project is under construction. Signs will be posted during the closure periods. The trail will remain open on most weekends. Please be mindful that these closures are for your safety and please obey all signs. The SCE/JPA Wetland Restoration Project Coastal Development Permit is tentatively scheduled for action on the OCTOBER California Coastal Commission meeting in San Diego. Construction on the project is expected to begin soon afterward. 8/1/05
The San Diego City Planning Commission approved the Site Development Permit for the Lake Hodges Bicycle Pedestrian Bridge on June 9th. That action has been appealed to the City Council due to controversy over potential operating hours, i.e., whether the bridge would be open 24 hours a day or closed at night. The appeal hearing has been set for September 20th. Construction of the bridge will probably begin in September 2006. 8/1/05
San Dieguito Wetland Restoration Project tentatively scheduled for action by the California Coastal Commission at their August 2005 meeting in Costa Mesa. The meeting is August 9-12. River Park Board approves Mitigated Negative Declaration for Lake Hodges Bicycle/Pedestrian Bridge at public hearing on May 20, 2005. Next step in permit approvals is San Diego Planning Commission on June 9, 2005 at 9:00 a.m. 6/04/05
California Coastal Conservancy awards $177,000 in grant funds to the River Park to assist in the design and construction of the coastal trail. This grant provides matching funds for a $1.3 million Federal TEA grant. The coastal trail, a segment of the "Coast to Crest Trail" will extend from Jimmy Durante Blvd. to just west of El Camino Real. Construction is expected to begin on portions of the trail in September 2005. 5/18/05

SDRP receives $2,000 gift from the Lake Hodges Native Plant Club to use to create a native plant garden. The garden will be planted south of the Sikes Adobe Historic Farmhouse next to the Mule Hill Trail. The primary purpose of the native plant garden will be to promote native plants by presenting them in a garden atmosphere, with signs that identify what they are. 10/14/04

05/07/04 - Save Our Heritage Organisation awards San Dieguito River Park a "People in Preservation" award for the Sikes Adobe Historic Farmhouse restoration.
09/08/03 - $125,000 grant recommended to SDRP from the State Department of Parks and Recreation in Federal Land & Water Conservation Funds. This grant will be used for accessibility improvements to the trail surface of a portion of the Mule Hill /San Pasqual Valley Trail.
07/28/03 - SDRP receives WHIP Grant from Natural Resource Conservation Service. These funds will be used for two projects - to create 1.35 acres of wetlands at Cloverdale Creek in San Pasqual Valley and clean up a degraded, litter-strewn section of Santa Ysabel Creek, also in San Pasqual Valley.
