We had another new species in October! A Green-tailed Towhee! Note we had 115 species which is quite a record for October. Normally we see around 90-100 species. We had two new species in September. Three Baird’s sandpipers in area#3 and a Tricolored Heron flying by the lagoon outlet. We had one new species in the August count. Two juvenile Gull-billed terns were seen on Sunday August 2nd. This brings our cumulative total species, over 10+ years of the count, to 246 species. We had a pretty good month with 91 species. Usually we are in the 70’s or 80’s for July. No new species, so we are steady at 245 cumulative species. This months bird survey had a total of 89 species, which is good for the quiet month of June. Lots of juvenile birds out! The San Dieguito Monthly Bird Count this month was not as spectacular as the April count but still very good. They had a total of 107 species, holding at 245 overall.
