The San Dieguito Monthly Bird count had a very good count for April despite, or perhaps because of, the COVID restrictions.  They had a total of 122 species and high numbers of many species.  For example, 129 Common Yellowthroats!  Just goes to show you how happy nature is when all the humans are locked up in their houses. Click here for the PDF document with results for the April 2020 count. One more new species, MacGillivray’s Warbler was also added to the list, bringing the total species count to 245.

The featured image of a Common Yellowthroat was taken by SDRP Trails Manager David Hekel off of the San Andres staging area trail. Common Yellowthroats are plentiful in this area among the salt bush. Listen for their unique ” witchety-witchety-witchety” song that lasts about 2 seconds as they dart around the bushes.
