We had 88 species, although that is a bit low for this time of year. Our overall cumulative total remains at 251. Despite somewhat low numbers, we had several good birds, including a Turkey Vulture in area 5 flying over the lagoon by Crest Canyon, quite a few Ridgway’s Rails (in areas 1 and 2), an American Robin in area 2, two Vermilion Flycatchers in area 2, and a Loggerhead Shrike in area 3 on Dust Devil Trail.

The featured image this month is of a Ridgway’s Rail taken by Ranger David Hekel. This bird is common in the River Park but very shy and elusive. Look for them darting in and around the undergrowth near the lagoon.
