The San Dieguito Monthly Bird Count identified 95 species in August and 96 species in September. No new bird species were seen, so the cumulative species total remains at 242. Click here for the PDF document with the detailed monthly results through September 2019.
Bird Count Leader Jayne Lesley reported that winter migrant shorebirds are returning, including Red-necked Phalaropes and Lesser Yellowlegs in what remains of the seasonal freshwater pond below Dust Devil Nature Trail West Loop. At Horsepark, Tricolored Blackbirds were seen for the first time this year.
