We are pleased to finally have the lights on the David Kreitzer Lake Hodges Bicycle/Pedestrian Bridge working again, thanks to a grant from the Rancho Bernardo Community Foundation. The bridge was designed from the beginning to have lighting that was focused downward onto the bridge surface, with power provided by a solar array. Unfortunately, the original solar panels were stolen, then they were replaced but stolen again. For a long time after that, the bridge was not lighted at all, while other options were considered but rejected. Finally, with the assistance of the Rancho Bernardo Community Foundation, funding was identified to move forward to install a more secure and theft-proof system of solar panels. We are confident that they will remain in place continuing to use the sun’s power to provide safe lighting on the bridge, thanks to RBCF.
