Bird count leader Jayne Lesley reports, “Though local birds are rather quiet, many summer breeding birds are still around and shore birds are starting to return from their breeding grounds to the north.”
The featured image of a female Belted Kingfisher was taken at the Old Grand Avenue Bridge in January 2018 by SDRP Trail Patrol Volunteer Ginni Kitchen. These birds can usually be seen along San Dieguito Dr. on the utility lines overlooking the water after returning from their summer breeding grounds to the north.
