The San Dieguito Monthly Bird Count identified 93 species in June, which is tied with last year for the most species seen in June. No new bird species were seen this month, so the cumulative species total remains at 238. Click here for the PDF document with the detailed monthly results through June 2018.
According to bird count leader Jayne Lesley, some noteworthy birds were 2 Willow Flycatchers, several Ash-throated Flycatchers, and Blue Grosbeaks.
The featured image of an Ash-throated Flycatcher was found on the Cornell Lab of Ornithology All About Birds website and was taken by Marc North. Ash-throated Flycatchers nest in cavities made by other species.
