The San Dieguito Monthly Bird Count identified 102 species despite the rain that morning. No new bird species were seen, so the cumulative total remains at 230. Click here for the PDF document with the detailed monthly results through March 2016.
Many duck species and four different swallow species (Tree, Northern Rough-wing, Cliff, and Barn) were seen around the freshwater ponds below the West Loop of Dust Devil Nature Trail. Cliff swallows have also started building their characteristic mud nests on the east side of the I-5 bridge over the river and trail. The featured image was taken by SDRP Trail Patrol Volunteer Ginni Kitchen last June at this location.
