The San Dieguito Monthly Bird Count identified 90 species in May, which is lower than usual for May due to rainy weather. No new bird species were seen, so the cumulative total remains at 234. Click here for the PDF document with the detailed monthly results through May 2017.

According to bird count leader Jayne Lesley, some noteworthy birds were a Red-necked Phalarope, a Hermit Warbler in Crest Canyon, a Vaux’s Swift, 4 Redheads (3 males and a female), a Bonaparte’s Gull, 2 Least Bell’s Vireos, a Warbling Vireo, and Roadrunners.
