The San Dieguito Lagoon Bird Survey results for September 2014 are in, and they include a new species! The Pigeon Guillemot has been spotted for the first time since the monthly surveys started in January 2010. This brings the cumulative species total to 221.

A member of the Auk family, the Pigeon Guillemot is a seabird that can be found anywhere along the rocky coasts from Alaska to California. Learn more about the Pigeon Guillemot at The Cornell Lab of Ornithology All About Birds website.

88 bird species were identified in September’s bird survey.
84 bird species were identified in August.
