The San Dieguito Monthly Bird Count identified 106 species in November. No new bird species were seen this month, so the cumulative species total remains at 242. Click here for the PDF document with the detailed monthly results through November 2018.
According to bird count leader Jayne Lesley, some noteworthy birds were the first sightings of the winter of the Loggerhead Shrike, Golden-crowned Sparrow, White-winged Dove, lots of American Pipits, and Hooded Merganser.
The featured image of a Hooded Merganser was found on the Cornell Lab of Ornithology All About Birds website and was taken by Ryan Schain. They are one of 3 different species of Mergansers that have been seen at the San Dieguito Lagoon.
