Palomar Audubon Society Trip Leader Jim Beckman guides birders through San Pasqual Valley on the first Saturday in April, and the list of bird species seen is posted on the PAS website. SDRP has compiled the lists from 2014-2017 into a PDF document.
47 bird species were seen this year, and three of them were new: Double-crested Cormorant, Chipping Sparrow, and Lawrence’s Goldfinch. None of those species are considered rare, but they just have not been seen during the previous three bird walks. This brings the cumulative total to 79 different species of birds seen over the four years.
The featured image of a pair of Lawrence’s Goldfinches was taken by SDRP Trail Patrol Volunteer Ginni Kitchen at Bernardo Bay Natural Area earlier this month.
