The San Dieguito Monthly Bird Count identified 83 species in September. No new bird species were seen, so the cumulative total remains at 231. Click here for the PDF document with the detailed monthly results through September 2016.
According to bird count leader Jayne Lesley, it was a quiet morning, with all parenting activity reported the past few months being finished except for an adult and juvenile Loggerhead Shrike. Other species of interest were: Least Bell’s Vireos singing south of Horsepark, 2 Tricolored Blackbirds in Horsepark, and early arriving Northern Pintails in what is left of the freshwater ponds below Dust Devil Nature Trail West Loop.
The featured image of a Northern Pintail was taken by SDRP Trail Patrol Volunteer Ginni Kitchen at the San Dieguito Lagoon back in February 2016.
