Dust Devils
Inland: Tuesdays, 8am-12pm – Meet at Park Headquarters.
Coastal: Fridays, 9am-12pm – Meet at the San Dieguito Lagoon Staging Area.
Get up close and personal with the dirt and plants. Join the team of Dust Devils who work side by side with Park Rangers on a weekly basis. They provide invaluable help with important projects throughout the Park, such as building/maintaining trails and restoring/managing habitat. This is a great way to learn more about the inner workings of the Park.
Note: you do not have to commit to all days – come when you can!
Trail Patrol
Do you like to hike, bike, or ride your horse through unique and beautiful open spaces? Members of the Trail Patrol Program monitor trails, report trail user counts, maintenance needs, incidents, and emergencies, share park policies with trail users, and provide general park information to the public. Volunteers are asked to commit to patrolling at least 3 hours per month.
San Dieguito Monthly Bird Count
The San Dieguito Monthly Bird Count is held at San Dieguito Lagoon on the first Sunday of every month. This is a great opportunity to learn about the birds of the lagoon and help with the ongoing survey of local bird populations. You will join expert birders who are experienced in the lagoon birds’ identification, habitats, behaviors, and migrations.

Retired Professionals
The River Park can greatly benefit from experienced retired professionals in areas such as GIS Mapping, Resource Management, Marketing/Advertising, Office Management, Grant Writing, Development, and many other areas. Do you have ideas about how your skills can support the River Park? Let’s talk!
Sikes Adobe Historic Farmstead Docents
If you have a special interest in historical education, come be a docent at the Sikes Adobe Historic Farmstead. Docents help convey what the pioneer farm experience in Southern California was like, using the Sikes Adobe as the stage. Volunteers learn about the architectural history of the farmhouse, the history of the Sikes family, and the agricultural history of the late 1800s. They also learn tips and techniques for being a docent and learn theory of interpretation. In return, docents commit to leading tours for the public and helping with special events.
