The San Dieguito Monthly Bird Count identified 110 species in March, with the sighting of a Mew Gull bringing the cumulative species total at 244. Bird Count Leader Jayne Lesley reported that some of the highlights included a Eurasian Widgeon, lots of Redhead ducks, Hooded and Red-breasted Mergansers, an American White Pelican, Yellow-crowned Night-herons, and a Lawrence’s Goldfinch.
Best of all, we have a new species for our count – a Mew Gull, roosting among the other gulls on the recently restored mudflats off of Jimmy Durante Road.
