The San Dieguito Monthly Bird Count this month was not as spectacular as the April count but still very good. They had a total of 107 species, holding at 245 overall.
Not so many migrants passing through. Not as much courtship associated singing. But summer breeders are settling in and are busy nesting and raising young. There was a lot of activity in the basins west of I5 as a result of the red tides we were having. A lot of fish die-off in the lagoon attracted an invasion of terns and gulls and waders that are not usually drawn into the lagoon.
