This months bird survey had a total of 89 species, which is good for the quiet month of June. Lots of juvenile birds out!
Sightings of special interest included Lazuli buntings and an Ash-throated flycatcher (area #1), Blue Grosbeaks in a couple of areas, American and Lawrence’s Goldfinch in area #3 and Least terns in one the nesting areas west of I5.

The featured image this month is of a female California Gnatcatcher bringing food in for the juvenile bird. These tiny birds can be found throughout the San Dieguito River Park cooridor. Look for them at the coast in the Saltbush plants along the trail by the Bird Wing ampitheather and listen for there “mew mew” cat like call. Photo taken by Krisztina Scheeff/ KS Nature Photograhy.
